Kawartha Lakes councillor asks council to push for OW increase

The ice storm that hit Kawartha Lakes in March not only had an impact on thousands of residents, but it hit those already financially struggling even harder.

"The cost of housing, food, medicine and other essentials is taking a toll on our communities and the number of people living in poverty is growing every day," said Ward 8 Coun. Tracy Richardson during Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting, where her memorandum recommending council request the provincial government to increase Ontario Works rates was presented.
